Beginner Blogger Challenge

One of my fellow PF bloggers at Passive Income to Retire, decided to put together a Beginner Blogger Challenge.  I decided to step to the plate and take part of this endeavor, because so many people I know personally who don’t blog, always ask me:  (1) why do you bother blogging in the first place and (2) how do you make money blogging.    By taking part in this challenge this blog post will serve as a platform to share my story online.  I have always shared my reasons personally, but now I can just point to one source online.  I want to thank Passive Income to Retire for allowing me to take part in this challenge.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since 2010, I started blogging for my business website.  At that time I was not on WordPress and I was using a static website platform through Godaddy and I paid an additional fee to use their blog hosting services.

Why did you start blogging?

I was part of a business women mastermind group that met once a month.  In 2009 at one of the meetings, the topic was blogging and why you should be blogging.  I was very hesitate about taking on blogging because I did not understand, why do people care about reading about tax planning and personal finance.  Even though I was reading other blogs since 2005 (not in that subject matter) at that time,  to me most of the blogs I read were like online journals.  So I was thinking, am I going to journal online about what I do in business.

How long did it take you to earn $100 (if you have already earned $100)

It depends on what you mean about how it’s earned passive or active.  Earning $100 has not been hard because I have gotten clients where as the income surpass $100 dollars. But to answer your question, I never  measure the results regarding did they find me from my blog or just the website.

What is (at least) one thing you wish someone had told you before you started blogging?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing, but if I had to say what ranked as the most important tip.  Know the “WHY” behind why you blog, who are you trying to reach, is it for monetization purposes, or are you trying to share your expertise with a larger audience.

It’s always interesting to see how other bloggers started blogging. I struggled at first when I started blogging about finding the “why” of my blog, as you’d mentioned. I have found it now (I think) but a couple of years ago I was floundering.

  3. I am still struggling with the why. I was doing some research on trying to find a niche, but I dont really know what mine is yet!

Great post! The “why” is very important. Sometimes I lose focus with my blog, but then I just need to step back and think about it.

  5. I think my “why” is both of the above. Initially, it was just to share what I had learned about online writing, blogging, and online marketing– and did not really have much to do with where I got clients and work. Now most of my clients seem to come from my blog, or find me and contact me there, to the point where I do not have to spend much time marketing—so I guess that would be considered monetization in some form. I am going to check out the challenge, too.
